We are happy to make any necessary travel arrangements for your trip. We continuously work directly with the airlines to offer their best discounted bulk fares to Brazil from many locations in the United States and Europe. Just let us know where you will be traveling from and we'll take from there!
United States, Canadian and Australian citizens are required to have a Tourist Visa prior to arrival. Nationals from some other countries may or may not require this for entry. We will help you to make these arrangements and walk you through this process.
The best route of travel is through São Paulo, Rio or Salvador with a connecting flight to the state of Bahia. There are many international carriers that fly to Brazil each day and two Brazilian airlines for the connecting flight, TAM and GOL.
The current exchange rate is about 2.77 Reals to the Euro so it is fairly inexpensive for foreigners to visit. You will need some Reals on hand when you arrive which you can buy in the airport.
Credit cards offer a good rate but are not accepted in all places.
Travellers' Cheques are not easily exchanged in Brazil - ensure you cash them at the airport when you arrive. There are ATMs in São Paulo airport but are not readily accessible during the workshop.
The primary language of Brazil is Portuguese. Some English and Spanish is spoken in the large cities and airports but it may be good to have a pocket translation dictionary with you.
Malaria prophylactics not necessary as the region we'll be staying is not considered high risk. Yellow fever vaccinations are only necessary if you've traveled to any of the following countries in the last 90 days: Angola, Bolivia, Benin, Burkina, Cameroon, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, French Guyana, Gabon, Ghana, Gambia, Republic of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Peru, Sierra Leone, Sudan or Venezuela. Australia now requires yellow fever vaccinations for re-entry.
To participate in this seminar it is absolutely necessary not to be taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) or any other medication which may interact with MAO inhibitors, SSRIs medication such as Zoloft or Prozac, or any other antidepressants that effect serotonin levels.
Taking such medications while working with Ayahuasca can cause tremendous adverse effects. Any of these medications should be discontinued at least 4 weeks before the workshop.
There will be a few dietary restrictions for the week that we ask you to follow. When we are working with the ayahausca medicine we eat a more natural diet, lowering the intake of refined sugar, salt and heavily processed "junk" foods, and abstain from ingesting red meat, pork and alcohol.
On the session days we will be eating breakfast and a light lunch, fasting for the rest of the day before the ceremony. The medicine has properties that allow the body to absorb that which it would normally pass through. Because of this, we must have an empty stomach on those evenings. There will be soup in the early morning for those who wish to eat afterwards.
We also recommend no sexual relations during the workshop.
The average temperature for this time of year is 82°/76° F (27°/24° C) so dress in light comfortable clothing with something warm for the cooler evenings. Definitely bring a bathing suit, sunscreen, light shoes to walk around in and one or two really comfortable outfits to wear on the evenings of the Ayahuasca ceremonies.
We also highly recommend you bring a notebook to record your experiences in. Coming out of the ceremonies you will want to record your thoughts and feelings which fade so quickly over time. Creativity flows with "the medicine" so you may want to bring drawing, painting and other artistic supplies with you as well.
